KOTA SAMARAHAN: A total of 3,610 new students of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) participated in the Student Pledge Ceremony held at Arena Gemilang, DeTAR Putra, marking the end of their orientation week and the beginning of their academic journey.

UNIMAS Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Ahmad Hata Rasit officiated at the launch of the university’s first fully digital student file management system, the Easy Undergraduate File System (EzUFileS).

The system, developed in collaboration with Bahagian Pengajian Prasiswazah (BPPs) and Pusat Digital Tun Abang Haji Openg (TAHODC), is in line with the Vice Chancellor’s 2024 mandate to digitize student document management.

“EzUFileS allows students to upload academic documents online, aligning with UNIMAS’ Go Green initiative and its goal to become a Low Carbon Campus, promoting sustainable and environmentally friendly management practices,” said UNIMAS.

The student pledge ceremony serves as a significant tradition in which new students pledge to uphold the values of UNIMAS, symbolising their official integration into the university community.

Organised by the Majlis Perwakilan Pelajar (MPP), the ceremony culminates a week-long orientation program aimed at familiarising students with university life, academic expectations, and available resources.

Throughout the orientation week, students were introduced to essential services, including health and library facilities, financial aid options through PTPTN’s Tabung Pendidikan dan Pinjaman, and other key resources.

They also attended civic engagement talks, including a session by the Election Commission of Malaysia (EC) on Undi 18 and a presentation by Akademi Kenegaraan Malaysia on ‘Tonggak Malaysia MADANI dan Kewarganegaraan’, which highlighted the importance of national unity and citizenship.

During the ceremony, Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak presented a replica cheque worth RM24,000 to support financially needy students at UNIMAS.

In addition, 2,000 boxes of ready-to-eat meals (MRE) were distributed to new students, with another 2,000 to follow in a second phase.

The initiative is part of Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak’s ongoing commitment to student welfare.

UNIMAS looks forward to witnessing the growth and contributions of its students as they embark on their academic journey.
