KOTA SAMARAHAN: The inaugural lecture titled “Architecture Education: Then, Now, and The Way Forward” navigates through the historical trajectory of architecture education, examining its evolution from traditional paradigms to contemporary practices.

In presenting the lecture, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) founding Dean of Faculty of Built Environment (FBE) Professor Ar. NurAkmal Abdullah Goh, drew upon her vast experience and expertise to shed light on the pivotal moments, influential figures, and transformative ideas that had shaped architecture education locally and abroad over the years.

During the session, NurAkmal delved into the challenges and opportunities facing educators, students, and practitioners alike.

From advancements in technology to shifting societal needs, she analysed the forces driving change and innovation within the discipline.

Atta delivers his speech

In his speech, the Dean of FBE Dr Atta Indrawani Zaini said NurAkma’s lecture enlightened the audience with a combination of unique ideas, experiences and worldview, which has been cultivated throughout her entire life, shaped through different times, challenges and practices that she encountered during her experiences in both the industry and academic world.

“I personally describe NurAkmal as a perserverant person, difficult to be discouraged and always energetic.

“She would always bring up interesting topics in daily conversations, often on what is emerging in the architectural field,” he said.

The inaugural lecture has been a thought-provoking journey through the past, present, and future of architecture education and NurAkmal’s insights will continue to inspire dialogue, reflection, and action within the academic community and beyond.

During the lecture session, a book was officially launched with the same title as the lecturer, officiated by Datuk Seri Panglima Sulong Matjeraie, chairman of UNIMAS Board of Directors.
