KUCHING: A group of 86 final-year students from the Social Work Program at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (FSSH), Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) attended a session of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) as part of their learning activities, Monday (Nov 18).
This initiative was organised as part of the course Social Policy Analysis and Planning (SSF3303), offering students an opportunity to gain firsthand exposure and experience in legislative proceedings.
According to Dr Athirah Azhar, the course lecturer and programme coordinator for the Social Work programme, the participation in the DUN session serves as an important learning activity, complementing the course curriculum and helping students better understand the practical application of social policy analysis.
“This visit not only provides valuable exposure but also aims to spark interest in students to learn more about the intersection of social policies and governance.”
She noted the importance of providing variety in learning methods each week to engage students and make the learning process more interesting.
“This hands-on experience is part of the broader effort to equip students with practical knowledge and skills in social policy and planning, preparing them for their future careers in social work and related fields,” she explained.
