KOTA SAMARAHAN: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) is spearheading a transformative movement in scientific research and education by embracing Open Science practices and actively participating in the prestigious OPEN ASIA project.

Co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union, OPEN ASIA aims to foster collaborative research and innovation across Asia, leveraging on the principles of Open Science.

In an era where scientific discovery thrives on collaboration and transparency, UNIMAS has positioned itself at the forefront of the Open Science movement. This commitment to openness and accessibility in research is set to revolutionize the academic landscape, both locally and internationally.

“Open Science represents a paradigm shift in how research is conducted and shared. At UNIMAS, we are committed to making scientific knowledge freely accessible, fostering collaboration, and driving innovation for the benefit of society,” said Professor Dr Ahmad Hata Rasit, the Vice-Chancellor of UNIMAS, expressing the university’s vision.

The participation of UNIMAS in the OPEN ASIA project underscores its commitment to advancing scientific knowledge and innovation.

“By embracing Open Science, the university aims to break down barriers to research, foster international collaboration and enhance the societal impact of scientific discoveries, UNIMAS is proud to be a part of the OPEN ASIA project,” said Professor Ahmad Hata Rasit.

“Our collaboration with leading institutions across Asia and Europe will not only elevate the standards of research but also contribute to addressing pressing global challenges,” he added.

UNIMAS continues to explore Open Science and contribute to the OPEN ASIA project, with a vision of a future where scientific research is more accessible, transparent, and impactful.

The university’s pioneering efforts are set to inspire other institutions in Malaysia and around the world to embrace the principles of Open Science.

Member countries of the OPEN ASIA project are India, Malaysia, the Netherlands, Finland, and Slovenia.

The project in Sarawak is led by Professor Dr Lo May Chiun, along with co-researchers Professor Dr Wan Hashim Wan Ibrahim, Associate Professor Dr Abang Azlan Mohamad, Professor Dr Rossazana Ab Rahim, Associate Professor Ir Dr Mah Yau Seng, Professor Dr Voon Boo Ho (Universiti Teknologi Mara cawangan Sarawak). Associate Professor Dr Winnie Wong Poh Ming (Universiti Teknologi Sarawak), and Professor T. Ramayah (Universiti Sains Malaysia).
