He said this after the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Skillseed Sdn Bhd (Exploria) in a ceremony at Rumah Universiti UNIMAS here on Tuesday (Aug 2).

Elaborating, he informed that the main role of the teaching hospital would be to educate medical doctors and those studying nursing at UNIMAS.

“In addition, one of the important roles is to carry out research in certain fields which is important for UNIMAS and Sarawak in particular. For example, research related to infectious diseases and tropical diseases where we seek to strengthen our understanding of these fields.

“At the same time, this teaching hospital is indeed open to the public because it is a government hospital,” he stressed.

Previously, Senior Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said the contract value of the project is worth RM485.99 million.

He said the teaching hospital will have a capacity for 300 beds to alleviate the strain on existing government hospitals in Sarawak as well as provide better access to residents in Samarahan, Padawan, Serian, Sebuyau and Simunjan.
