KOTA SAMARAHAN: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) in collaboration with TEDxKenyalang hosted a `Green Tech Talk‘ at Auditorium, CAIS Unimas, from yesterday 19th September until today.
The two-day programme was launched yesterday by Minister of Utilities, Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom.
The talk focuses on green technology with a focus on “Hydropower for a Clean Future Energy.
“It is very timely to have this talk to create the awareness of how important it is to have the green technology to preserve our clean and healthy environment in the future,
“I hope this talk can motivate graduates and the local public to explore, share and develop new ideas in green technology that can potentially be beneficial to their communities,” said Rundi.
Meanwhile, Unimas Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic & International), Prof. Dr. Wan Hashim Wan Ibrahim said, Unimas had taken initiatives to be a `Low Carbon Campus’ (LCC).
“Unimas has received electric bicycles to support the LCC implementation in campus. Energy related courses are taught to educate students on available natural resources and students activities and events are held as an initiative in line with the Energy Management Gold Standard (EMGS).
“It is our aim to educate Unimas graduates and the community on the latest trends and competencies in the green technology industry and this is also in line with TEDx culture pf sharing ideas and new innovations amongst the people,” said Hashim.
Among the topics that were discussed were maximising hydropower for the future, low carbon initiatives, green energy concept, building energy efficiency and many more.
