KOTA SAMARAHAN: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) through its Faculty of Engineering (FEng) will be offering competency certificates in gas piping in Sarawak.
This is to cater for the need of the industry in line with the Distribution of Gas Ordinance 2016.
Unimas vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi received the Certificate of Authorisation from Ir Dr Martin Anyi, director of Gas Distribution of the Utilities Ministry, at his office in Kota Samarahan on Dec 8.
This follows the exchange of memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Utilities Ministry to leverage on Unimas’ capabilities and strength in developing and conducting courses and competency training modules in gas distribution.
Unimas has developed competency training modules for Gas Fitter Class III, Gas Fitter Class II, Gas Fitter Class I, and also Gas Responsible Person course which will be offered next year.
Through this collaboration, Unimas will be able to help the state to improve the quality and safety of the gas industry in Sarawak by producing competent manpower.
Currently, FEng is ranked in the Times Higher Education and programmes recognised by the Board of Engineers Malaysia and the Engineering Accreditation Council Malaysia with six years accreditation.
