KOTA SAMARAHAN: The Career Exhibition and Talent Recruitment (Trace) 2022 programme is part of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak’s (Unimas) efforts to provide a pathway for students towards career development while fostering creativity and innovative qualities.
Unimas deputy vice-chancellor (student and alumni affairs) Professor Dr Kamarudin Kana said it could also equip students with knowledge and inspiration towards innovation that put them on par with the needs of the growing global industry and community.
“Because of that, we (Unimas) welcome industrial organisations and companies from all over Malaysia, especially Borneo, to expose students to the prerequisites needed to be in their communities.
“In addition, this programme provides a platform for students and job applicants to get involved and start networking with experts and the professional sector,” he said at the opening ceremony of the event at DeTAR Putra, Unimas here on Wednesday.
In this regard, he added that Unimas Trace would also help add more knowledge and network to students as well as provide assistance in nurturing the quality of research and technology in students.
“This is in line with the aspirations of the university pursuing excellence in research aspects. We believe the combination of classroom learning ideas and industry exposure through this event will producing new graduates who are diverse in skills and robust in demand.
“The knowledge gained from the Unimas Trace programme is geared towards the improvement, dissemination, preservation and advancement of knowledge for community development.
“Today, the industry faces challenges in human resource recruitment as they seek candidates who are equipped with thinking power, soft skills and the ability to actively adapt to an ever-changing environment.
“The criteria mentioned, is an important aspect that companies are looking for for young talent. The integration of these factors will undoubtedly create a healthy competition among university graduates.”
The Unimas Trace 2022 held from June 21-22 involved a total of 64 booths with three main sponsors, namely Sarawak Energy Berhad, Press Metal Bintulu Sdn Bhd and Sarawak Media Group (SMG) and also featured Sarawak TV as media partner.
The event was also held with support from the Sarawak Social Security Organisation (Socso).
