KOTA SAMARAHAN: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) won 13 awards at the Malaysia Technology Expo 2019 (MTE 2019) held in Kuala Lumpur from Feb 21 to 23.
It won a special award, courtesy of International Alliance of Innovation and Invention Associations for its innovation titled“Antimicrobial Starch-Based Film for Food Packaging Applications”, a research led by Associate Prof Dr Chin Suk Fun of the Faculty of Resource Sciences and Technology (FRST).
The university also won a gold medal for “Verification of Design Equations for Ductile Failure Mode in Bolted Connections of Local Hardwoods”, a research led by Ir Dr Abdul Razak Abdul Karim of the Faculty of Engineering (FENG).
It won another gold medal for “NieAra: Gamified Literacy App for Children with Learning Disabilities”, a research led by lecturer Chuah Kee Man of the Faculty of Language and Communication (FLSCS).
Meanwhile, Unimas bagged two silver medals for “Antimicrobial Starch-Based Film for Food Packaging Applications”, a research led by FRST’s AP Dr Chin Suk Fun and “Voter Tracking System” led by Dr Suhaila Saee of the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology (FCSIT).
Other than that, the university also secured seven bronze medals. They were for “Iban Warrior: Promoting Iban Culture using Mobile Augmented Reality Game”, a research led by FCSIT’s Syahrul Nizam Junaini and “Design and Implementation of Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation (SVPWM) for Harmonic Reduction for Three Phase Inverter System” led by FENG’s Dr Yonis M Yonis Buswig, “Smart Parking System (SPARKS)”, a research led by Mohd Uzairi Ahmad Hajazi of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB), “Industrial Training Performance Visualisation System” led by Oon Yin Bee of the Faculty of Cognitive Sciences and Human Development (FCSHD).
The university also received a bronze medal for “Mo-Wall Smart Kiosk”, a research led by FCSIT’s Dr Hamimah Ujir & Dr Irwandi Hipni Mohamad Hipiny, “Museum Guide Using Mobile Augmented Reality”, a research led by FCSHD’s Dr Rehman Ullah Khan and “Classification Of Skin Burn Depth In Human”, a research led by FCSIT’s Dr Stephanie Chua Hui Li.
Last but not least, the university also won a merit award for “Marine Molluscs of Borneo Interactive Website”, a research led by FRST’s Associate Prof Dr Ruhana Hassan.
MTE 2019 was organised by Professional Trade Exhibition and Meeting Planners (protemp) and Malaysian Association of Research Scientists (MARS).
The event featured more than 500 inventions by leading researchers and innovators, academicians, research institutions, young entrepreneurs and the industry. These participants share a common principle that invention is the foundation that propels the world’s technology and new orders of wealth creation.
MTE 2019 was participated by many other countries such as Croatia, Indonesia, Iran, Poland, Saudi Arabia, Singapore and Taiwan.
