Explore the evolution of Tangoo’s menswear, a seamless blend of streetwear and haute couture, breaking gender norms and embracing a unisex aesthetic.
Diving into the world of men’s fashion
We are back in the Tangoo fashion world, a name synonymous with artistic innovation and boundless creativity.
This visionary brand has seamlessly blended the essence of global inspiration into every fabric. From delicate imprints that pay homage to distant lands to vibrant hues that echo cultures yet to be explored, each of its garments conveys a unique story of the world’s collective heritage.
We previously featured this label, which unveiled an amazing womenswear collection with an iconic artist’s image.
Now comes their menswear! Some apparel companies, like many others, are blurring the lines between their men’s and women’s wears.
Nowadays, dressing unisex is fashionable. Hence, it is time to gender-bend!
Moses Law, a Sibu fashion designer who spreads his wings to our fashion capital of Kuala Lumpur over two decades ago, created Tangoo with his friend Eric Yeong.
They shook up the world of high fashion by fusing streetwear and haute couture, making the former cool again while giving the latter a new life.
Even after 21 years, Tangoo has remained relevant, recently winning a Malaysia Excellence Celebrity Award from World Noble Organisation.
Another Sarawakian who received this award is Dewi Liana Seriestha, the beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss Malaysia World 2014 and Miss World Talent 2014.
Tangoo menswear collection was launched this year at Kuala Lumpur Fashion Week (KLFW) and featured some streetwear-inflected aesthetic as well as some accessible luxury to the designs; denims with embroideries, metals, beadings, and images of Picasso arts and other artists.
A second menswear collection was launched this month. There were more feminine accessories and fluid touches.
Calling it Exotic Eclecticism Part Two, Law said, “Tangoo fashion show is much more than just a visual spectacle. It’s like taking an immersive journey into a world where fashion becomes a vibrant form of artistic expression.
“The interplay of bold patterns, luxurious textiles, and daring colour palettes all contribute to the creation of a narrative that transcends appearances.
“With each graceful stride down the runway, models become ambassadors for the seamless connection between human ingenuity and the rich mosaic of global traditions.”
When asked what sparks off their decision to do menswear, he said, “Initially, both of us exclusively designed menswear for ourselves to wear rather than purchasing from elsewhere. Then many friends and customers began asking us to make menswear for them.”
Since 10 years ago, when they were presenting fashion shows in London, there have been several inquiries about what they were wearing and where to buy it. Hence, they were encouraged to produce menswear.
On the type of menswear, Law said, “We like to design simple yet unique, new trend or bohemian pieces with multi-cultural elements that are also easy to wear and never go out of style,” adding that in terms of market, they are targeting the middle and high-end markets; there is no age limit.
“Men like to look good in different outfits and unique designs now that we have social media.
“It is obvious that since the advent of social media, everyone has been more attentive of their appearance. We are a visual species, and looking good and appropriating it in a situation ensures that we are not regarded negatively. As is often said, we feel good when we look good,” he said.
