KUCHING: The women’s wing of the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) recently engaged in discussions aimed at advancing women’s initiatives within the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) coalition.
Women, Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah received a courtesy visit from the PDP women committee at Baitulmakmur Building 2 today (Feb 2).
“Today, we also welcomed representatives from Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS), and Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP), completing the coalition under Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS),” Fatimah said during a press conference.
During the visit, Angnes Jonep, the PDP women’s chief, introduced herself and her delegation, which includes Secretary Wendy Earnest Sadan, vice-president Dr. Stefanie Evelyn Bubong, and the treasurer, to the GPS women’s team.
Their meeting focused on the trajectory of women’s programmes, particularly those geared towards GPS women.
Fatimah highlighted the importance of grassroots leadership understanding governmental functions and initiatives.
“Emphasising the grassroots leadership’s need for awareness about departmental functions and government initiatives, the significance of disseminating such information to the people in their respective areas,” said Fatimah.
She later proposed collaborative efforts between her ministry and the PDP to develop programs aimed at improving community wellbeing in rural and inland areas.
“We have to work together, work as a team,” she added.
