KUCHING: The existing unity and solidarity in Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) can be traced back to the party’s history, said a political observer.
Datuk Peter Minos said the members trusted the party to take care of the interests of the state’s multiracial, multireligious and multicultural groups.
Simply put, they have full confidence in PBB.
He said the confidence and trust in party leaders helped create a feeling of unity among party members.
“When the party’s top posts of president and vice presidents were returned unopposed for the upcoming PBB Triennial General Meeting (TGM) it could only mean one thing – unity in the party is genuine and genuine.
“PBB members throughout Sarawak chose the no-contest stand which gave a clear signal that there is no mood nor desire to fight things out as what truly mattered was the party’s solidarity.
“This keep things in the party peaceful and stable which is a must and means a lot as it indicates that the party’s unity is more important than members’ personal ambitions,” he said yesterday (June 14).
Minos said the no-contest stand could also be interpreted to mean that PBB members were happy and contented with the leadership.
With PBB being the backbone of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), the leaders ensured Sarawak was peaceful and stable, he added.
“The people are witnessing accelerated economic and social development under PBB and GPS.
“Sarawak’s name and reputation in Malaysia have risen and we are respected for being politically united, economically fast rising, winning massively in the last state election and keeping the state’s flag high and flying,” he said.
Minos explained that PBB’s special and unique culture of unity had been there long which stressed the importance of party unity.
Adding on, he said only real and genuine unity could bind party members and surmount any problems and challenges from inside or outside.
“Without real and genuine unity, things in the party can fall apart, especially during periods of crisis or turbulence.
“As such, when the very top PBB leaders like president and Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg showed great ability, competence, and effectiveness that developed not only respect and confidence, but also unity,” Minos said.
