KUCHING: The Thanksgiving Ceremony for Other Religions, an event scheduled for September 14 at the Dewan Suarah Sri Aman, will be part of the 2024 Malaysia Day celebration.
Organised by the Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR) under the Sarawak Premier’s Department, the event aims to foster mutual understanding among the various religions embraced by the communities.
Deputy Minister for International Trade, Industry, and Investment Datuk Dr Malcolm Mussen Lamoh said that the ceremony will serve as a platform for discussing and sharing experiences among followers of different religions.
He emphasised that such interactions can bridge gaps, challenge stereotypes, and enhance mutual understanding.
“Discussions and meetings like this can help bridge gaps between religious communities, eliminate stereotypes that often hinder unity, and provide a clearer understanding of each other’s practices and beliefs,” he said.
The Batang Ai assemblyman said this during the exclusive ‘Juh Randau’ programme by Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) at Bangunan Baitulmakmur yesterday (Sept 10).
The ceremony will be launched by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.
The public is also invited to participate in other Malaysia Day events in Sri Aman, including the “Konsert Cinta Malaysia, Segulai Sejalai” at the Sri Aman Waterfront on September 14 and the Malaysia Day Assembly at the Sri Aman Sports Complex Indoor Stadium on September 16.
Attendees are encouraged to bring Jalur Gemilang flags to show their national pride.
