MUKAH: Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib, the incumbent for Mukah, is leaving it to her constituents to determine if she should continue serving them as their MP.
“The decision to compete in the 15th general election (GE15) is in the people’s hands.
“Alhamdulillah (thank God), if I am given the opportunity to represent the people’s voice in Parliament P213 Mukah. The decision is in the people of Mukah”, she said.
She noted that due to the age factor, some of her fellow political friends have stepped aside to make way for the younger candidates.
“There are also others who have expressed their desire to step down.
“Some MPs will remain because they have a responsibility to the community in their constituencies”, he said.
However, she said Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg will still have the final say with regards to the nomination of candidates.
Hanifah who contested under the Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition ticket in 2018, defeated Abdul Jalil Bujang from Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) by a 7,000-vote majority.
She took 66 per cent of the overall votes in a straight fight with the PKR candidate.
