KOTA SAMARAHAN: The Kota Samarahan Sarawak Bumiputera Entrepreneurs Chamber (DUBS) needs to upgrade its night market infrastructure to ensure better business development in 2023, says Samarahan district officer, Annuar Da’an.

He cited as a good example, the Miri’s night market (Uptown) which has a prayer room and a covered area for the convenience of vendors and customers.

The Samarahan DUBS Uptown, he said, is one of the focus business sites with a record of rapid development since its establishment seven years ago.

“I am confident that Samarahan Member of Parliament, Datuk Rubiah Wang can support us to expand and show great interest in developing the entrepreneurial economy, especially to local traders.

“This is important as the country’s economy is expected to slow down in the future. Therefore, now is the perfect time for entrepreneurs to play a key role in the growth of the economy in the country,” he said.

He said this in his speech when representing Rubiah at the closing ceremony of an event at Uptown DUBS Samarahan grounds on Friday.

The ceremony coincided with the 2023 New Year’s countdown, which was held at the same venue yesterday (Dec. 31) and drew enthusiastic response from those present.

The programme’s goals include recognising Uptown vendors with awards, inspiring other vendors with their success, and encouraging vendors to be more dedicated.

Eleven recipients were also recognised in six award categories during the event which are the Anugerah Usahawan Gigih, Anugerah Usahawan Inpirasi, Anugerah Usahawan Popular, Anugerah Booth Tercantik, Anugerah Usahawan Dedikasi, and Anugerah Usahawan Platinum.

There was also a singing competition and a lucky draw for visitors and traders who wished to participate.
