KUCHING: The upgrading of a 350-metre-long drain in Kampung Segedup here has been completed.

Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Satok deputy chairman Datuk Ibrahim Baki visited the site of the completed project after flagging off the Kayuhan Kembara Merdeka (cycling convoy) at Kampung Segedup here on last Monday.

He explained it was one of the rural transformation programme (RTP) projects in Satok state constituency.

Ibrahim said the upgrading works of the drain involved five lorong (lanes) from Lorong 12C up to Lorong 12G in Kampung Segedup.

“It is a big project costing about RM280,000. Works had started before the movement control order (MCO) and was done in phases later. It is finally completed today (Aug 31),” he said.

He was happy with the upgrading works and also glad the residents in Kampung Segedup had been very cooperative in allowing some part of their land to be used for widening the drain area.

“There is also another upcoming major project which is the upgrading of pipes in Kampung Segedup. This project will be implemented this year and it costs about half a million ringgit,” he said.

Ibrahim added, “As indicated by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, there will be a village extension programme for Kampung Segedup involving a land area of about 33 acres.

“Before this, Segedup was a sub-urban area and now, it is under Satok constituency. It will be developed into a modern village with the relevant facilities.

“With the village extension, people who live in the area will feel like they are living in a modern city,” he said.

Ibrahim added the people in Kampung Segedup were united, just like all the other Sarawakians.

“As such, this is a good area to live in Kuching and Sarawak for that matter,” he said.

Kampung Segedup today has more than 4,000 residents.
