KUCHING: The Rural Transformation Centre (RTC) Munggu Lalang in Gedong is set for an upgrade to enhance the comfort and convenience of the local community by early next year.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said he agreed to the expansion of the centre.

“Earlier, Datuk Seri Mohd Naroden Majais (the special representative of the Premier in Gedong) mentioned to me about this (RTC) ‘balai’ (hall).

“So, I said alright, if there is available land, we can build a hall larger than this for the community here.

“This is so that we can gather easily for events like weddings and other celebrations. This way, we won’t need to use tents as we do now,” he said.

He said this during the 2024 Gedong District Gawai Dayak Ngiling Bidai ceremony held at RTC Munggu Lalang Hall, Gedong today (June 16).

Abang Johari, who is also the Gedong assemblyman, said he hoped the project can commence early next year so that the people in the constituency can benefit from it.

Regarding other developments, he said he will continue to work alongside with his colleagues to develop the entire state.

“Currently, our economy is growing rapidly. If you look at TikTok, you’ll see that everyone is talking about Sarawak’s progress and how we are moving forward.

“This is all because of our collective efforts in driving Sarawak ahead. We are all fulfilling our duties, he said.

On agriculture, he said the state is working on rice cultivation using the latest technology.

“Therefore, we are setting up a training programme to teach our farmers how to use the latest technology.

“In Sarawak, we can train our young people. We have many bright young individuals who can learn these skills,” he said.

Abang Johari, who is also the Minister of Finance and New Economy, added rice production can be doubled provided the use of technology.
