SIBU: Upgrading works on the Jalan Sibujaya-Kong Yit Khim Road are expected to be completed by the end of this year, said Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
“It’s a bit delayed, I was informed (it will be completed) by the end of this year,” he said when met by reporters during his Chinese New Year visit to Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing, and Local Government Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee’s house here today.
However, Abang Johari did not disclose further details on the reason behind the delay of the 6.75km road, costing RM95.6 million.
In September last year, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Aidel Lariwoo while inspecting the project, said the project was about 77 per cent completed.
He said the project, capable of reducing travel time by 20 to 30 minutes from Sibujaya township to Sibu town area, was expected to be completed by January this year.
Also present were Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, Utility and Telecommunication Minister Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi and Sibu Municipal Council (SMC) Chairman Clarence Ting Ing Horh.
