KUCHING: Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) director- general Datuk Mohammad Hamdan Wahid said officers and personnel should strive to be a role model to give the department a positive image.
According to him, the department’s main motto is to serve the people, meaning firefighters must serve the people regardless of place, time, background and skin colour.
“Firefighters are the first to enter a danger zone and the last to leave the area, which calls for courage, accountability and alertness,” he said when officiating at the state Bomba ‘Anugerah Perkhidmatan Cemerlang’ (APC) at Dewan Majma’ Tuanku Abdul Halim Mua’dzam Shah in Sarawak Islamic Complex here.
He said the department encourages excellent work culture among its employees in order to provide services that meet the expectations of the people.
He called on firefighters to work diligently and make a healthy work culture a competition to do good in a healthy manner.
He encouraged firefighters to use their commonsense at work saying: “When a policy or procedure doesn’t exist for that particular event, or when conditions don’t warrant a protocol-based response, this is the time that demands the right decision-making,” he said.
A total of 200 recipients of various awards were presented during the ceremony.
Also present was state Bomba director Khirudin Drahman and other senior officers.
