KUCHING: United People’s Party (UPP) Youth Central Committee endorsed its new line-up for 2018-2021 consisting of young entrepreneurs, engineers, educators and professionals from different fields at its meeting yesterday.
UPP Youth secretary Yap Min Su told a press conference the new line-up was announced after the UPP second Triennial Delegates Conference (TDC) in Sibu on July 7.
“The new line-up will endeavour to represent the voices of young people in our party and campaign for the rights and interest of young people in the party and beyond,” he said.
“The youths of today are the future of tomorrow. UPP Youth Central Committee is keen to explore the idea of setting up the Putera and Puteri wings to attract youths above 18 and below 21 years old to join the party.
“The idea is to provide a platform for young people to get involved in politics and train them as future leaders of Sarawak.”
Yap said UPP Central Youth Committee was unanimous in supporting the decision of the Central Working Committee to rebrand the party and make it multi-racial.
He said the committee also pledged its full support for Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg.
“We trust our Chief Minister, with his wisdom, will be able to resolve the MA63 issue effectively and lead Sarawak into the future,” he added.
Chairman of UPP Youth Central Committee, Dr Johnical Rayong Ngipa said the new line –up for the 2018-2021 term comprised 30 members and that 10% of them were new faces.
“As we discussed just now, we’d like to form the Putera and Puteri wings and we will do that through events and activities. We will focus on young people between 18 and 21 years old.
“Our new line –up was actually announced during our last Triennial Delegates Conference (TDC) held in Sibu in July and today, we just endorsed it, ” he explained.
