KUCHING: Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi Abang Abdul Johari Tun Openg yesterday afternoon received at his office in Wisma Bapa Malaysia a courtesy call by the US Ambassador to Malaysia His Excellency Kamala Shirin Lakhdhir.
During the half-hour call, Lakhdir extended an invitation to Abang Johari to be the guest-of-honour at the closing ceremony of the Pacific Partnership exercise on board the USNS Fall River tomorrow.
USNS Fall River is the United States Navy expeditionary fast transport ship.
Commanded by Captain Brendon Zilkom, it arrived here on March 28 for the annual Pacific Partnership exercise between the Malaysian armed forces, the United States, Australia, the Philippines, Japan, Peru, Thailand and the United Kingdom.
During the 15-day exercise, the ship’s crew were involved in civil engineering projects as well as medical and dental projects.
Accompanying Lakhdir during the call were the US Embassy officials in Kuala Lumpur, namely senior political specialist Ravindran Manickam, assistant cultural affairs officer Sarah Talalay and economic officer Michael Marcous.
