PADAWAN: The United States (US) remains committed to partnering with Sarawak to foster the state’s economic growth and prosperity.
US Ambassador to Malaysia Edgard D Kagan cited Sarawak’s exceptional significance, not only within Malaysia but also globally as a key reason for his visit.
“We are immensely proud of the long-standing relationship between the US and Sarawak.
“We are proud of Sarawakians who have pursued their education in the US, and the presence of American companies in Sarawak, such as Western Digital, which employs more than 2,000 people in Kuching.
“This also extends to the longstanding relationships within the oil and gas industry and the roles played by American individuals and companies,” he said.
He was speaking to reporters during a visit to the Semenggoh Wildlife Centre on Monday, as part of his official working visit to Sarawak following his appointment as the US Ambassador to Malaysia.
Edgard noted that the long-lasting economic collaboration between the US and Sarawak through American companies operating in the state had created employment prospects especially for locals.
He said Sarawak has greatly benefited from global trade and has thrived due to its engagement in international commerce.
Additionally, he said Sarawak’s persistent efforts in setting international trade standards serve as a positive indicator to investors regarding the state’s dedication to holistic development.
