KUCHING: The new federal government has agreed to cut the monthly salary of ministers by 20 per cent.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the decision reflected the Cabinet members’ concern for the problems faced by the people now.

New Sarawak Tribune spoke to few people for their thoughts about this matter.

It is one of the best alternatives from the government. This is because to some extent, it can improve the country’s economy. The money saved can be used to ease the cost of living of the people who are facing rising inflation.

The decision is good and appropriate. The excess money from the cuts can be used to implement policies to help the people. The salary cut also shows the ministers sympathise with the people who are suffering from rising inflation after coping with COVID-19 in the past two years.

The ministers’ salary cut needs to have a positive impact on the people, especially the B40 group who are greatly affected by the current economic situation. For example, the government can consider using the money saved on subsidies for food, oil, chicken or other needs of the people.

I support the ministers’ salary cut. The government can use the money saved to provide subsidies for those from the B40 group.
