Schools should use appropriate channels when requesting funding, said Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem.

According to the Serian Member of Parliament (MP), for that purpose, the relevant schools should submit a formal request letter to their district education office (PPD), which will subsequently be forwarded to the state Education Department (JPN).

Additionally, he stated that the parent-teacher associations (PTAs) and the schools’ administration can contact their respective MPs to request funds from the federal government.

“Apart from writing a formal letter to their respective PPD, PTAs and school principals can also write to me directly, and as an MP, I will submit requests to the Ministry of Education in Putrajaya.

“They (the Education Ministry) had the largest budget allocation during the budget presentation in March this year,” he said when officiating at the appreciation ceremony of the Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Koran PTA here last night (March 6).

Riot speaks at the event.

Elaborating, he said Serian has a total of 99 primary schools, nine of which are Chinese national-type schools (SJKCs), making them more challenging to manage.

Riot acknowledged the challenges the schools were facing and reassured them that the authorities were doing their best to assist them.

He therefore emphasised the necessity for the local community to work together and support their respective schools.

“I believe that SK Koran produces excellent products, and I hope successful alumni will continually support school events.

The pupils are getting ready to perform a traditional dance.

“If the school needs help, please provide it to them, especially those who are capable,” he added.

The event was held to celebrate the contributions made to the school by both present and former PTA members.

“I’d like to commend the PTA of SK Koran for hosting such a beautiful and joyous celebration. The pupils’ traditional performances also made an impression on me,” he said.
