PUTRAJAYA: The state government, represented by the Department of Land and Survey (JTS), has handed over RM5 million in research funding to Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM).
The RM5 million contribution is intended for research and development (R&D) related to the green economy, mining, geospatial, remote sensing, marine cadastre, climate change, urban and regional planning, disaster management, membrane technology, and several other sectors tied to the JTS-UTM Satellite Laboratory collaboration programme.
The studies are specifically focused on Sarawak and are expected to provide the best input towards realising the Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.
The presentation of the replica check amounting to RM5 million was completed by the Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Urban Development Datuk Abdullah Julaihi, to UTM Vice-Chancellor Prof. Datuk Dr Ahmad Fauzi Ismail, witnessed by Raja Permaisuri Agong Raja Zarith Sofiah, during a royal banquet at a prominent hotel here on Saturday (Oct 19).
In his welcoming speech, Ahmad Fauzi thanked the state government for the contribution.
“I commend the state for always being at the forefront of utilising the latest technology for sustainable physical and economic development,” he said.
The event also celebrated 39 contributing agencies from state governments, professional boards, industries, alumni associations, banking institutions, and several UTM commercial corporations, with cumulative contributions through this platform totaling RM6.4 million in 2024.
Also present were UTM Pro-Chancellor Che’ Puan Mahkota Khaleeda Johor, secretary-general of the Ministry of Higher Education Dato’ Seri Dr. Zaini Ujang, UTM board of directors chairman and member Tan Sri Azman Mokhtar, and Sarawak director of Land and Survey Awang Zamhari Awang Mahmood.
