SIBU: Surau Pusat Islam University of Technology Sarawak (UTS), in collaboration with the UTS Muslim Students Association and UTS Women’s Association, distributed bubur lambuk (porridge) to the public yesterday (Mar 20).
The event took place at Surau Darul Islam Sibu, Jalan Bandong, under the leadership of UTS Vice Chancellor Professor Datuk Dr Khairuddin Abdul Hamid.
Khairuddin, also the chairman of the Surau Pusat Islam UTS Management Committee, said the distribution of the porridge has been an annual tradition of Surau Pusat Islam UTS.
“We distributed 450 packs of bubur lambuk to the public along Jalan Bandong, and 350 packs to the staff and students of UTS,” he told reporters.
He such such programmes foster closer ties with the local community, given that the university is fully owned by the Sarawak government.
“We aim to demonstrate that, besides fulfilling our roles as educators or staff at the university, we also need to closely interact with the community and strive to contribute to the best of our ability, particularly during this Ramadan season,” he said.
Khairuddin said the bubur lambuk was prepared by the UTS Women’s Association, led by its chairperson Datin Dayang Mariani Abang Zain.
The association also distributed 50 packs of the porridge to Sibu Hospital as part of its outreach efforts.
