SIBU: University of Technology Sarawak (UTS) received Malaysia’s Best University in TVET Education for Advanced Skills Training award in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday (Aug 15).

The award is a significant milestone for UTS, aligning with its vision to be a global technical university founded on science and technology.

It was specifically bestowed upon UTS due to the success of its innovative Bachelor of Technology Management programme, which uniquely combines technology management education with TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) courses.

“This programme has distinguished UTS as a leader in providing industry-relevant skills and knowledge, ensuring that graduates are well-prepared to meet the demands of the modern workforce,” UTS said in a statement on Friday (Aug 16).

The award was presented in Kuala Lumpur by the Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Datuk Mustapha Sakmud, to UTS Vice Chancellor, Professor Datuk Khairuddin Abdul Hamid.

In his acceptance speech, Khairuddin highlighted the importance of this recognition not only for the university but also for the broader community it serves.

“UTS is the only homegrown TVET university in Sarawak, and we are immensely proud to be acknowledged for our commitment to excellence in education and skills development.”

“Being recognised by Jabatan Pembangunan Kemahiran as a ‘Pusat Bertauliah’ further underscores our dedication to providing high-quality education that meets national standards,” he added.

He emphasised that the achievement is a moment of pride for the entire School of Business and Management at UTS, reflecting the hard work and dedication of the school and staff.

“The award is a testament to the university’s ongoing efforts to elevate technical education in Malaysia and contribute to the country’s vision of becoming a global leader in advanced skills training.

“As UTS continues to push the boundaries of technical and vocational education, this recognition serves as a stepping stone towards greater achievements and a brighter future for both the university and its graduates,” he said.
