KUCHING: Sarawak has thus far managed to vaccinate 438,621 of its people. This figure is 21.47 percent of those who have registered — a long way from its herd immunity target of vaccinating 80 percent of the population by August.

This means that the state (going by the latest statistics made available today by the authorities) is short of nearly 59 percent of reaching the target.

Be that as it may, Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg recently said the state government is targeting to vaccinate 50,000 persons daily to hasten its vaccination programme.

The state currently has 71 vaccination centres (PPV) and a total of 1,405,883 people or 68.82 percent have registered themselves for vaccination.

Moreover, the state has also recently deployed the ‘jab first, register later’ approach for Sarawakians in the rural areas to ensure that they are included in the programme.

Abang Johari noted that the target to achieve herd immunity is feasible if the state increases its PPVs and intensify the vaccine rollout.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) recently highlighted several points for members of the public to take note of in preparation before going to the PPV for their vaccination appointment.

MOH stated that members of the public must ensure that the personal information is updated and the health evaluation form has been answered on their MySejahtera application.

“Please read and understand the Covid-19 Vaccination Consent Form before signing the form in front of the medical officer in charge. We would like to remind members of the public to arrive at the PPV on the correct date and time.

“They must bring along their identification card and smartphone which has the activated MySejahtera application,” it said.

MOH also advised members of the public to wear clothing that are suitable for administration of injection on the upper arm such as short sleeves or loose long sleeves shirt which allow for folding to access the area for injection.

“As for the elderly and people with disabilities, we encourage them to come with a companion,” it added.
