KUCHING: Sarawakians have been urged to register to be given the Covid-19 vaccine.
The purpose is to reach a critical mass of vaccinated people whose sheer number would enable them as a giant group to acquire herd immunity against the virus.
Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian noticed that last week only 270,000 of 900,000 high-risk Sarawakians registered to be vaccinated under Phase 2 of the Covid-19 Immunisation Programme.
“We need everyone to help as we want to vaccinate everyone who is eligible by August,” he said in a Facebook post on Sunday (April 25).
The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) advisor said that more vaccines will come for the coming phases of the vaccination.
“We pray that by July or August, when we won’t have too many vaccines left, Sarawak’s two million or so people would have been vaccinated,” he said.
In the meantime, he expressed his appreciation to the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) and community leaders for their perseverance in registering the local people for Phase 2 and Phase 3 of the vaccination programme.
Those that have yet to register for the vaccination can do so by registering at the Special Committee of Ensuring Access to Covid-19 Vaccine Supply’s (JKJAV) website at https://www.vaksincovid.gov.my/, MySejahtera application or register at their nearest District Offices or Resident Offices.
