KUCHING: The Kuching South City Council (MBKS) will conduct a rabies vaccination programme from twice a year to four times yearly.
Mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng stated that MBKS is collaborating with non-governmental organisations (NGOs) such as the Sarawak Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SSPCA).
“So far, we are trying to identify the locations for the vaccination, and we will also assist in the sterilisation of dogs and cats. We are doing our best, but public support and cooperation are essential for a smoother process,” he said during a lion dance performance event today at India Street here.
Wee also informed that a dog suspected of aggressive behaviour involved in nine bite cases near Chawan Road and Wan Alwi Road since last Monday was captured yesterday evening (Feb 13).
“Our team (MBKS) has sent blood samples to the Sarawak Veterinary Services Department (DVSS) for rabies testing. Another stray dog is still being sought and MBKS will continue to track or locate suspected dogs throughout the area,” he explained.
