KUCHING: The federal government is considering on introducing travel bubble passport to encourage Malaysians to take vaccines, said Senior Minister of Works, Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof.
“That is one of the discussions that the federal Cabinet is having as an incentive to encourage people to go for vaccination.
“Once you had been vaccinated with two doses for an example, then you will get a passport which will allow you to travel anywhere in Malaysia,” he said.
He said this in a press conference after officiating at the Malaysia Prihatin: Management of Covid-19 Pandemic programme held at Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) Sarawak building here today.
Fadillah who is also the Petra Jaya MP further said if the World Health Organisation (WHO) or other countries agree to establish such passport at the international level, the people would be able to use the passport to travel abroad.
“Therefore, we should put the vaccination as one of the pre-conditions for those who wish to travel.
“However, this proposal is not finalised yet. It is just one of the proposed initiatives being considered by the government,” he added.
Asked on when whether the passport will materialise, Fadillah said it would depend on the technical committee to review all the aspects before it could be tabled to the two sub-committees under the National Security Council observing Covid-19 and emergency proclamation, respectively.
“From there, it will be brought to the Cabinet and presented to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong for his consent,” he explained.
