SIBU: The decline in Covid-19 cases here is related to the smooth and prompt vaccination process by various authorities, said Dr Annuar Rapaee.

He added the efficacy of the Covid-19 vaccines had also contributed to a decrease in the number of critical cases being treated at the Sibu Hospital and the low-risk quarantine and treatment centres (PKRCs).

The Sibu Division Disaster Management Committee (SDDMC) coordinator said this during a live stream of the Covid-19 daily update for the Sibu division on Saturday (July 31).

He reported that the number of ICU admissions at hospitals statewide had declined since early July.

“In Sibu, only five patients needed the ventilators as of Saturday (July 31). Before the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (NCIP) was implemented, there were many cases who needed the ventilators.

“With this decline in numbers, the Covid-19 vaccines are important and have clearly shown their effectiveness in Sibu,” he explained.

the efficacy and effectiveness of the Covid-19 vaccines were evident in Sibu Jaya. Once a Covid-19 hot zone, it had become a green zone.

The Nangka assemblyman said that for the 30th week, the number of Covid-19 cases in Sibu was 122.

He added he and his team were increasing their efforts to trace the Covid-19 Delta variant.

He added active case detection (ACD) would be conducted to screen for the variant in Sibu.

“We want to be proactive in preventing the spread of this variant,” he added.
