MIRI: The Miri Division Health Office has received an initial supply of Pfizer vaccines on Jan 29 for the National Immunisation Programme for Children (PICKids) here that is scheduled to begin on Monday, Feb 7.
A fraction of the supplies was distributed to health clinics in rural areas that had a medical officer on Jan 30 with cooperation of the Fire and Rescue Department using their helicopter.
“Coordination has been made between the District Education Office and health clinics in the area.
“Appointments were arranged at the nearest health clinic with liaison of the school.” said minister responsible for Miri Division Disaster Management Committee Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin in a statement.
According to Lee, parents or guardians must accompany their children to receive the vaccine at a time and place notified by the school.
A representative letter must be signed by parents or guardians if they are unable to attend.
On Saturday (Feb 5), children with comorbidities and those who were receiving follow -up treatment, aged 5 to under 12, had received their first dose at Miri Hospital.
“For children who do not go to school, aged 5 to under 12, parents or guardians can arrange for appointment at the nearest health clinic by phone call or physically come to the clinic.
“Children do not have to be present but bring their identification card to arrange for appointment,” he added.
For rural areas, chief villages, tuai rumah or kapitan are required to list children, aged 5 to under 12, in their respective areas and deliver the information to the nearby health clinic.
Parents are also encouraged to register their child as ‘dependent’ in MySejahtera to get the digital certificate of vaccination.
Appointments for children however are not available through MySejahtera at the moment.
