MIRI: The missing lighting equipment on a buoy in Kuala Baram, here has been replaced with a new one, said Transport Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin.

The navigation buoy belongs to Petronas Carigali-SKO Sarawak Operation for the purpose of marking underwater pipelines to ensure safety of navigation.

The buoy was reportedly vandalised which compromised the safety of navigation for ships and fishing boats operating around Kuala Baram.

“A new replacement has been installed in the shortest possible time to safeguard maritime transportation in the area.

“The new installation was completed on Wednesday,” Lee said in a statement yesterday.

The minister appealed to all shipping communities as well as fishing communities to join hands in safe-guarding the buoy from vandals for the benefit of all seafarers.
