KUCHING: The Vandalism Prevention Against Utility and Telecommunication Facilities Campaign will be expanded to every division throughout Sarawak.
Minister for Utility and Telecommunication, Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi stressed the need to increase awareness about vandalism issues across Sarawak.
“We hope that by implementing this programme at the divisional level, we can further raise awareness among the community, especially in rural areas.”
He made this statement during the Vandalism Prevention Against Utility and Telecommunication Facilities Campaign ceremony at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) today (July 3).
The state-level campaign was attended by 3,220 people, including students from 27 secondary schools and students from both public and private higher education institutions around Kuching.
Officiated by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, Sarawak Criminal Investigation Department head SAC Wong Ing Fung also delivered a briefing on combating vandalism.
Julaihi added that the programme, organised in collaboration with the Education Department, received strong support from school management and local assemblymen.
“Insha’Allah, we will continue the programme in selected schools in the Central and Northern regions of Sarawak to further increase awareness about vandalism prevention.”
Additionally, the Sebuyau assemblyman mentioned that the ministry has organised several awareness programmes about the negative impacts of vandalism on utility and telecommunication facilities among school students.
As a start, he noted that last year, the ministry organised such programmes at Sekolah Seni Malaysia Sarawak involving 278 students, SMK Sematan with 275 students, and SMK Kampung Nangka Sibu with 206 students participating.
“I hope that the efforts of the Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication will receive cooperation and support from the entire community, stakeholders, and relevant agencies to make the anti-vandalism programme a success as planned,” he added.
