KOTA SAMARAHAN: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) is focused on carrying out its social responsibility towards local communities in Samarahan, Kuching, and Sarawak as a whole.
In an event yesterday, Unimas contributed 121 used computers to 45 selected schools in the Samarahan and Kuching areas.
“We are working with the Samarahan and Kuching District Education Offices to identify schools which need them,” said Unimas vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi in his text of speech read by Unimas deputy vice-chancellor Prof Dr Wan Hashim Wan Ibrahim.
Seventy-nine computers were given to 31 schools in Samarahan and 42 computers to 14 schools in Kuching.
Kadim said a similar event was held last November when 25 schools and five non-governmental organisations (NGOs) were given 162 used computers.
“We are certain these computers will greatly benefit these schools,” said Mohamad Kadim.
“They will teach young students the importance of computers in their daily lives as well as learn the correct methods of effective information gathering.”
Unimas also offered its Quick Response (QR) Attendance (CloQee) application to 74 schools to record the attendance of teachers and students during school activities.
CloQee is an attendance recording app developed by Unimas’ own system developers and is available for download on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
The event was officiated by Kota Samarahan MP Rubiah Wang.
