KUCHING: Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) aspires to unlock the potential of science, technology and entrepreneurship to address the intricate dynamics of food production, distribution and accessibility.
Its vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Roziah Mohd Janor said this would be done through the convergence of biotechnology, smart farming practices and entrepreneurial innovation.
“Thus, this first International Conference on Biotechnology, Smart Farming, and Entrepreneurship for Food Security (BioSFE) 2023 is the perfect platform for both local and international participants to present their knowledge and the latest research findings related to this field.
“We can establish and nurture a network that will hold exceptional value,” she said.
Roziah said this in her text-of-speech which was read by UiTM Sarawak Rector Prof Datuk Dr Jamil Hamali during the conference held at Riverside Majestic Hotel on Monday (Sept 25).
She added UiTM, represented by its Sarawak branch, has steadfastly supported the state’s initiatives, actively contributing to the pivotal role in driving Sarawak’s economic growth.
“Under the esteemed leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari, there is no doubt that Sarawak is advancing in the right direction, aligning itself with other developed nations.
“Be assured that our commitment to supporting the Sarawak government’s needs remains unwavering, just as it has been,” she said.
The three-day conference themed ‘Bridging Technologists and Entrepreneurs Towards Agriculture Revolution 4.0’, is hosted by UiTM Sarawak Campus, Ministry of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development, and the National Chung Cheng University.
