MIRI: A vessel caught fire while being manually dismantled at a dockyard in Kuala Baram on Saturday.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue operation centre reported that an emergency alert was received at 2.44 pm.

A team of firefighters from Lutong promptly responded to the alert and arrived at the scene.

The fire broke out on a vessel that was in the process of being cut down for disposal.

At the time of the incident, three workers were conducting manual dismantling operations.

Fortunately, they managed to escape to safety without any injuries.

By 4 pm, overhaul work was still in progress to ensure the fire was completely extinguished and to prevent any potential flare-ups.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, and investigations are ongoing.

The swift response from the fire department helped to contain the blaze, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the dockyard.
