TANJUNG MANIS: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) in collaboration with the Department of Fisheries Malaysia (DOF), detained a local Class C fishing vessel along the Tanjung Manis Maritime Zone, for violating licence conditions in a joint operation on Thursday (Oct 31).
According to Maritime Commander Gilbert Tinggak Numpang, director of the Tanjung Manis Maritime Zone, during Op Mardof the vessel was detected and detained while illegally fishing approximately 3.7 nautical miles from Tanjung Pasir Mas.
“Upon inspection, the vessel was found to be operated by a skipper along with five crew members, all Malaysian nationals aged between 17 and 50. The case is being investigated under the Fisheries Act 1985 for breaching the terms of its licence.
“Both the skipper and crew have been detained, and approximately 4,500 kilogrammes of mixed fish catch was confiscated. The seized vessel and its catch have been handed over to investigation officers for further action,” he said.
