KUCHING: Veteran journalist Datuk Affandi Tahir passed away at his residence here last night (May 20). He was 83.
The news of his passing was confirmed by his son Faisal Affandi, who said his father died at 10.53 pm, according to a report by TVS.
Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information, and UKAS) Datuk Abdullah Saidol visited Affandi at his home just a few hours before his passing, after receiving news of his condition.
Affandi began his illustrious career as a broadcasting assistant at Radio Sarawak in April 1961. He later served as a radio broadcasting journalist at Radio Television Malaysia (RTM).
Among his notable positions were director of RTM Johor (1992-1996) and chief executive officer of Cats FM. Affandi also chronicled his life story in a book titled ‘From Belacan to FM’.
His contributions to the field of journalism and broadcasting have left a lasting legacy.
