KUCHING: A leading media personality on Tuesday spent a good part of two hours keeping staff of New Sarawak Tribune and Suara Sarawak spellbound with insights on the intricacies of the world of journalism.

Suhaimi Sulaiman’s talk on Pushing Boundaries and Staying Relevant in the Changing Media Industry was attended by more than 100 participants including media practitioners from Astro Awani Sarawak.

Presently Chief Executive Officer of Sarawak Media Group, the brand owner of TVS, the 60-year-old has over 25 years’ experience in the industry.

Prior to his appointment as SMG CEO, he served as CEO and Editor-in-Chief of Astro Awani and as BERNAMA chairman.

Suhaimi who is a multi-talented storyteller attended the CNN Journalism Fellowship Management Session at CNN’s headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia, in September 2014 and is a CNN Journalism Fellow.

In his welcoming speech, chief executive officer of New Sarawak Tribune and Suara Sarawak, Dr Jeniri Amir, said the talk was a part of the 24th talk series planned for this year for both news orgaanisations.

“We believe in training as it can enhance skills and increase knowledge on news reporting,” he said at the event held at the Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA) hall here.

He hoped Suhaimi’s talk will not only inspire but benefit the workings of the newsroom.

Also present were Sardon Zainal, the chief operating officer (COO) of Tribune Press Sdn Bhd and SV News Sdn Bhd, Harry Henry Julin, New Sarawak Tribune executive editor, Suara Sarawak executive editor Rohana Wahed and CENTEX Commercial general manager Shahren Yusri.
