SIBU: Some 80 veterans from the 6th Rejimen Renjer Diraja (6RRD) Scout 1022 and 1024 recently revisited their memories at a reunion after not seeing each other for 42 years.
According to the event’s spokesperson, David Majang, the group included 40 veterans from Peninsular Malaysia and 40 from Sarawak.
The delegation visited Kem Oya, where they had previously served under the Rascom unit.
David fondly recalled the time they spent at Kem Oya, noting that the camp was a great place in their lives.
“We trained here and were absorbed under Rascom to contribute to security during the communist threat and specific operations,” he told reporters today (Dec 4).
David acknowledged the aging and loss of many veterans while offering a chance for the remaining veterans to strengthen their bonds.
He thanked the Commanding Officer of Kem Oya and the 9th Brigade Commander for their hospitable reception and the facilities that contributed to the success of the event.
He mentioned that the highlight of their gathering would be a dinner with the 9th Brigade Commander and the Commanding Officer of Kem Oya at Li Hua Hotel the following evening (Dec 5).
