Victim injured, but suspect collared

MIRI: A saloon worker here was injured in a failed snatch theft attempt at Jalan Boulevard 3C on Wednesday.

Miri police chief ACP Lim Meng Seah said while the 22 year-old victim sustained injuries to her left leg and arms in the 10am incident, the suspect was collared by members of the public.

“They have surrendered the 29-year-old suspect to the police for further action,” he said.

According to Lim, the victim was on her way to work when the suspect grabbed her sling bag from behind. A tug-of-war ensued between the suspect and the victim over the bag.

The incident attracted several members of the public, who rushed towards the victim and helped her catch the suspect. The case is being investigated under Section 394 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect had previous offences related to drugs and theft.
