SIBU: A total of eight scam cases involving supply of goods to government departments have been recorded by the Commercial Crime Investigation Division, police district headquarters here this year.
According to Sibu police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili, the cases involved losses amounting to RM102,935.
“The victims were deceived in business transactions involving the supply of goods to government departments, including the Agricultural Department, Land Department, Public Works Department, and Health Department, all conducted online,” he said in a statement on Thursday.
Therefore, Zulkipli advised the public not to be easily deceived by business transactions conducted via phone calls or text messages on applications such as WhatsApp, WeChat, and others.
“Do not make any payments without first verifying the information by directly contacting the relevant department or company to avoid falling victim to fraud,” he warned.
He added that the public can contact the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC) at 997 for further advice or information.
“The public can also follow the Facebook pages @cybercrimealertrmp and @jsjkpdrm.
“Additionally, suspicious bank accounts or phone numbers can be verified through the website
http://ccid.rmp.gov.my/semakmule/,” he added.
