MIRI: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) here seized a Vietnamese vessel and RM1 million worth of assets during an operation codenamed “Raja Laut” last Friday.

Miri Maritime Zone Director, Captain Mohd Khairol Anuar Saad said the vessel was intercepted approximately 141 nautical miles northwest of Tanjung Sirik, around noon.

“The vessel, along with a two-member crew – a tekong and another individual, both Vietnamese nationals aged 41 and 42 – are suspected of violating the Fisheries Act 1985.

“They are believed to have entered Malaysian maritime territory without notifying the Director-General of Fisheries,” Mohd Khairol said in a statement.

He reiterated Malaysia’s commitment to not tolerate foreign fishing vessels infringing upon our waters, particularly around Sarawak.
