MIRI: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) detained a Vietnamese fishing boat which encroached into Malaysian waters on Wednesday.

All the 10 Vietnamese crew members on board were also detained. Confiscated as well were 200kg of fish.

The Director of Miri Maritime Enforcement Agency District 13 (MMEA DM13), Captain Md Fauzi Othman said the vessel was spotted during an Ops Permai patrol at 4am on Wednesday.

The arrest was made around 4.25am, about 95.2 nautical miles off Kuala Bakam waters, near here.

“The crew members aged between 16 and 52 years did not have any valid documents on them and they failed to display their boat license,” he said.

The cost of the boat is estimated to be worth around RM200,000.
