BELAWAI: A village chief’s wife was killed and he suffered severe injuries when a pick-up truck collided head-on with their vehicle here.
Two others travelling in the pick-up truck sustained minor injuries in the mishap which took place at Jalan Tanjung Manis-Kampung Jerijih Belawai on Monday (Nov 15).
Sarikei police chief Supt Awang Alfian Awang Bujang said the accident happened around 7pm.
The car driven by the 65-year-old village chief with his 54-year-old wife as passenger, was heading towards Kampung Jerijih Belawai when the pick-up truck driven by a 24-year-old man with a 25-year-old man as passenger and heading towards Tanjung Manis, ran into them.
“It is believed that the pick-up truck veered out of control and crashed into the oncoming car,” said Awang.
“All four victims were immediately rushed to the Belawai health clinic for immediate treatment but the village chief’s wife succumbed to her injuries while receiving treatment at the clinic,” he added.
He said the village chief suffered a broken leg and hand while, the pick-up truck driver suffered a leg sprain and his passenger suffered an ankle fracture.
All three of them were later sent to Sibu Hospital for further treatment.
