SADONG JAYA: The Sadong Jaya Village Expansion Scheme (SPK) will be able to meet the growing population in the district especially in the traditional villages.
Sadong Jaya assemblyman Aidel Lariwoo said the crowded and disorganised village conditions are deemed to disturb the landscape and ambience in the village.
“When we look at the traditional Malay villages along the coastal areas, many tend to extend their homes to accommodate their extended families. This contributed to the uneven and disorganised outlook of the village.
“In addition, the high cost of owning a house in urban areas such as Kuching makes it difficult for the low-income group or those who do not have a fixed income to buy a house there.
“That is why with the SPK scheme, houses could be constructed in a more affordable and organised manner,” he said.
He said this to reporters after accompanying Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan on a visit to the project site today (March 13).
Aidel also noted there might be three or four families having to share one roof because they could not build their own homes.
“This is why this SPK is seen as significant and relevant because those who qualify will have their own house which is more comfortable to live in,” he added.
SPK Sadong Jaya will be equipped with basic facilities such as road connectivity, concrete drainage, as well as utility supplies such as electricity and water.
Aidel explained that the evaluation on SPK lot applications would be coordinated by the Land and Survey Department and assisted by the village heads and community leaders (KMKK) of the respective villages.
Priority would be given to residents in four villages, namely Kampung Sadong Jaya Laut, Kampung Sadong Jaya Ulu, Kampung Sadong Jaya Tengah and Kampung Sungai Bilis.
