KUCHING: A state assemblyman has reminded the people not to easily believe the propaganda regarding the recession faced by the country being spread by the opposition party leaders.

Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap Sin Yau said the current recession faced by the country was not too bad as claimed by the opposition, adding that the government has spent RM77.3 billion in various subsidies for the people.

He said the provision of such huge subsidies showed that the current government cares for the people.

Hence, he hoped the people would continue to give their fullest support to Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) and pointed out that the state’s ruling party was a caring government.

“The GPS government under the leadership of our Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari understands the problems faced by the rakyat, because GPS is a caring government and have farsighted vision for the people and the development of the state,” said Yap when officiating  at Kampung Stutong “ngiling tikai’ Gawai closing ceremony at the village’s multi-purpose hall here on Saturday night.

The event was attended by about 300 people.

Yap advised the people to remain united under the GPS government because if they don’t leaders from Peninsulra Malaysia would take advantage of the situation.

He added that Sarawakians also must be united under GPS in order to achieve its 2030 vision of a developed state.

He said the people of Sarawak could see for themselves the plans and programmes initiated by the state government for the benefit of the state and its people.

“GPS is not like Pakatan Harapan who made a lot of promises but failed to deliver the promises they made,” he said.

As for GPS government, Yap said last year alone the state government initiated seven Sarawakku Sayang Assistance Pakages to assist the people in facing the Covid-19 pandemic.

He said Sarawak has its own Post Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 to spur the state’s development programmes.

At the event, he pledged to allocate grants for the upgrading of Kampung Stutong’s multi-purpose hall.
