KUCHING: Villagers of Kampung Kudei Dunggun here heaved a sigh of relief as their old dilapidated bridge has been upgraded.
The old bridge which was in use for over 30 years was replaced with a new bridge made of belian wood. The project was handed over yesterday to the villagers.
The new bridge is 189 metres in length, one metre in height, with a width of 1.2 metres. Its construction was divided into two packages, A and B, with the former covering 120 metres and the latter covering the remaining 69 metres.
Satok assemblyman Datuk Ibrahim Baki said the project to upgrade the bridge cost approximately RM250,000. He also said the project was completed ahead of schedule.
“The project began on Feb 20 and was completed on July 7, a month earlier than scheduled. I would like to congratulate the Public Works Department (PWD) and the contractors for the prompt delivery of the project,” he said.
He made these remarks after a visit at the new bridge on Tuesday. Earlier the Satok assemblyman was at the village to witness the handing over of the project from the Public Works Department (JKR) to the village committee.
Ibrahim said the new bridge will benefit some 500 villagers in Kampung Kudei Dunggun.
Also present were Kuching South City Council (MBKS) deputy mayor Hilmy Othman; a political secretary to the Premier, Abdul Samat Gany; Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Satok chief Goh Leng Yeu; SUPP Batu Lintang chief Sih Hua Tong and Kampung Kudei Dunggun village head Philip Chakat.
